Holders of the ICMA™ Advanced Card Education – Manufacturing (ACE-M) certificate have demonstrated broad knowledge of the materials, processes, technologies, and quality requirements involved in card manufacturing. The certification covers the principal stages of the manufacturing process, from the selection of plastics, inks, and adhesives through printing, lamination, die-cutting, and final product testing.

The examination accommodates candidates familiar with either Metric or Imperial measurements. Where applicable, measurements are presented in both formats, e.g., Metric (Imperial), e.g., 780 microns (30.71 mil) or 25 cm × 25 cm (9.84 in × 9.84 in).
The ACE-M exam is closed book. Seminar materials, manuals, notes, pens, internet resources, mobile phones and other unauthorized materials are not permitted during the examination. If time remains, candidates may review their answers and any questions flagged for review.
Exam Content The ACE-M examination covers core areas of card manufacturing:
- Section 1: PVC and Plastics
- Card manufacturing materials, plastic card construction, material properties, tolerances and common material-related defects.
- Section 2: Inks
- Ink composition and properties, drying and curing methods, adhesion, color, durability and print performance.
- Section 3: Adhesives
- Adhesive systems used in card construction, bonding conditions, material compatibility and common bonding issues.
- Section 4: Printing
- Printing processes used in card manufacturing, including screen printing, ink deposits, registration, color consistency and common print-quality issues.
- Section 5: Collation
- Preparation, positioning and alignment of printed sheets, films, overlays, cores and other card components prior to lamination.
- Section 6: Lamination
- Platen lamination principles, temperature, pressure, processing time, card construction and common lamination defects.
- Section 7: Die-Cutting
- Die-cutting equipment and processes, card dimensions and tolerances, tooling, machine settings and cut quality.
- Section 8: Standards and Testing
- Industry standards, specifications, testing methods, measurements, tolerances and quality control.
- Section 9: Sustainability
- Alternative card materials, recycled and renewable content, water consumption, life cycle analysis, carbon footprint and manufacturing considerations for more sustainable materials.

The ICMA™ ACE-M qualification is designed for professionals involved in card manufacturing, production, quality control, technical support and related products and services.
This includes production operators, technicians, engineers, quality and process specialists, supervisors, technical sales professionals, product managers, suppliers, consultants and others working throughout the card manufacturing supply chain.
ACE-M is appropriate for both experienced card-industry professionals seeking independent recognition of their knowledge and individuals who are building their expertise in card manufacturing.
Requisitos
ACE-M is designed for card-industry professionals with practical knowledge of card manufacturing and related processes. Industry experience is beneficial; however, candidates are strongly encouraged to complete the official ICMA ACE-M training program and review the ACE-M study materials before taking the certification examination.
Relevant experience may include working in one or more of the following areas:
- Card manufacturing or production
- Card personalization or service-bureau operations
- Materials, equipment, or other products and services supplied to the card industry
The ICMA™ ACE-M designation is a standalone certification. Candidates are not required to hold the ICMA™ ACE-P or ICMA™ ACE-A designation before taking the ACE-M exam.
